Moving Expenses
Find out if you qualify for a Moving Expenses Deduction. If you qualify, we need the following information:
- Number of km between your old home and your new place of work or educational institution 
- Number of km between your new home and your new place of work or educational institution 
- Address of your old home 
- Address of your new home 
- Date(s) of the move 
- Date you started your new job, business, or studies 
- Name and address of your new employer, business, or educational institution after the move 
- Transportation and storage costs for household items and the name of the mover, if applicable 
- How many household members in the move 
- If you drove, the number of km travelled 
- If you travelled by air, bus, or train, please provide receipts 
- Fuel and meal receipts from the move, if you have them (Even if you have them, we may not use them.) 
- Receipts for purchases of packing materials and other things incidental to the move 
- If your move took more than a day, hotel/accomodation receipts, number of nights, and the number of days 
- If you had temporary living expenses near your new or old home (up to 15 days only), the numbe of nights and days spent there 
- Cost of cancelling the lease of your old home 
- Costs to maintain your old home when vacant 
- Selling price of your old home, real estate commissions, legal fees, advertising, and any other selling costs 
- Purchase price of your new home, legal fees, and any registration and transfer fees 
- Were you reimbursed by your employer for any of the above expenses? If so, how much were your reimbursed?
